2nd Generation iPod nano-Related Article I had been dreading retirement – the idea of having so much free time scared me. How was I going to keep myself occupied? Actually, when the time came, the transition from a working life to a retired one was quite smooth. Reading, gardening, pursuing long dormant hobbies all kept me occupied and at peace with myself. And my constant companion through all these activities was the retirement gift my office gave me. No, not a watch, but a 2nd generation iPod nano. It made far more sense and although I was a very late beginner, I was soon hooked on it and the idea of having music with me all the time. Then one, day while I was out in my garden, I left the iPod nano 2nd gen on a garden table while I went inside to answer the phone. I got caught up in some other work and remembered my 2nd gen iPod nano a couple of hours later. When I went out to get it I found that it had become very windy and a gust of wind must have blown the table over because it was lying on its side with the iPod crushed under it. I retrieved the iPod and tried to play it but with no luck. I was pretty depressed at the thought of having to junk it. I could always buy another one –although it would stretch my retirement budget a bit – but this had a sentimental value. It was a retirement gift. The thought of iPod repair never crossed my mind. I took it for granted that these small electronic devices could not be repaired. I phoned my grandson, told him what had happened and asked where I could buy a new iPod. His immediate response was that he would take care of it. He came over later that day, picked up the broken iPod and told me to “chill” for a few days. A short time later he came back with a new looking iPod and when I asked him how much it cost, he gave me a very low figure. He smiled and said that it was my old iPod that he had given to an iPod repair company. I tried it and it worked perfectly. Thinking it was time he taught his grandpa a thing or two he explained that all he had done was do an internet search for iPod repair companies, select one, contact them and send the iPod to them for repairs. In a very short time it came back as good as new. So I got my iPod back for a reasonable repair charge plus the cost of a large sundae as a reward for my grandson. | |
